HUAWEI P30 Pro: Come for the camera, stay for everything else
The highlighting feature of the Huawei P30 Pro is the unbelievable camera present on it. Capable of stunning night time photography as well as videography and a never-seen before 50x digital zoom, the Huawei P30 Pro can take photos and videos like no other phone. But there is a lot more to the Huawei P30 than just the camera. While the camera might be the feature to pull you in, there is plenty about this phone that make it stand as a flagship champion.
We’ve been using the Huawei P30 Pro for over a month now and here are some observations about it.
Let’s start with the performance. The Huawei P30 Pro is one of the smoothest Android devices thanks to the powerful Kirin 980 processor with 8GB of RAM. This combination lets you easily multi-task between different applications with no slow-downs.
When it comes to gaming, GPU Turbo 3.0 makes sure your games get all the power you need with maximum performance and minimizing distractions from notifications or phone calls. The hefty 256GB of storage will allow you to store all your games without filling up the phone.
Besides top-notch performance, the P30 Pro also introduces an acoustic display which allows sound to travel from under the screen. This helps reclaim screen space that is usually occupied by an ear-piece allowing for maximum screen estate. Sound quality from this speaker is loud enough for you to carry your conversation while being discreet enough to not have others hear it.
Huawei has also improved the in-screen fingerprint sensor that is quicker than any other phone with that feature that we’ve used. Huawei claims it is 30% faster than their previous generation and the results are very noticeable.
You’d think that a phone with such high specs and a massive 6.7 inch display would deplete your battery fast but the 4,200mAh battery on the P30 Pro easily lasts a day and two if you’re a bit careful. Huawei has made sure that you don’t waste much time charging the battery either. The bundled 40W charger can power the P30 Pro up to 70% in just 30 minutes.
The phone also supports wireless charging for convenience and is quicker to charge using than most other phones using that method as well. Reverse wireless charging, that was first introduced with the Huawei Mate 20, is also back allowing you to charge accessories or even mobile phones that support wireless charging.
Moving on to the camera, we’ve said it over and over again that the Huawei P30 Pro rightfully owns the title of the Super camera phone and through software updates, Huawei is making it even better. The new Super Spectrum sensor is magical letting you take pictures and videos in darkness that are unbelievable while insane 50X zoom levels newly introduced in the HUAWEI P30 Pro, lets you take photos of objects like the moon that have never been possible with mobile phones before. The following is a gallery of sample shots we’ve taken from the Huawei P30 Pro:
A recent update added the dual view video capability to the device that we’ve talked about more separately. Also worth highlighting is the TOF sensor that is capable of detecting multiple levels of depth creating stunning bokeh images. This mode also works with videos and allows you to get really creative. Here is a sample video from the device.
All in all, the Huawei P30 Pro was an incredible flagship from Huawei when released and while the focus with the P series has always been on camera and design, there is a lot more to the P30. Huawei is pushing software updates to make the device even better. It truly is the flagship champion.
